UMAA Kamrup felicitates Oja Rakesh Naorem in Guwahati
At the beginning of the program, the committee's secretary, Budha Ch. Laisharam, introduced Ojha Rakesh Naorem to the audience. Following the introduction, he was honored with a traditional scarf (Lengyan Phi) by a team led by Lamabam Chingthang Khomba (Gen. Secy. UMAA C/C), Budha Chandra Laisharam, Lourembam Modon Chand, and Ng. BALADEV Singha as a mark of respect.
Among the speakers, Lamabam Chingthang Khomba gave a detailed account of UMAA's 33-year journey and its activities, as well as the current situation.
Ojha Rakesh Naorem spoke extensively on fostering unity and love among the people of Tripura, Bangladesh, Cachar, Hojai, and Guwahati. He captivated the audience by discussing his directorial Manipuri feature film "YAHOU THENGBA KHOIMU," which was released on January 9 this year and won an International Award. He also spoke about his other released and upcoming film projects. As a SOCIAL ACTIVIST, he expressed his willingness to collaborate with UMAA on future endeavors.
Towards the end, the president highlighted the objectives of the UMAA CENTRAL COMMITTEE and its three main demands: the formation of a Manipuri Council, replacing the nominated body of the Manipuri Development Council with an elected one, and the demand for Scheduled Tribe (S.T.) status. He also extended his best wishes to Ojha Rakesh Naorem for a successful and long life.
The event concluded gracefully with a vote of thanks delivered by the committee's secretary, Budha Chandra Laisharam.
