Lakhipuronline Digital Desk | 3 November 2026:

Cachar Police have seized 31,400 suspected Yaba tablets, with an estimated black-market value of around ₹7 crore, during two separate anti-drug operations in Cachar district of Assam. Three people have been detained in connection with the seizures.

The operations were conducted at the Lailapur naka checking point under Dholai Police Station and near the Chengkuri Bypass area of Silchar. According to the information provided, the suspected narcotics were allegedly being transported from Mizoram in a vehicle and concealed inside a scooter.

19,400 Suspected Yaba Tablets Recovered at Lailapur

The first operation was carried out at the Lailapur naka checking point under Dholai Police Station. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number AS 18 AC 4435 for checking.

During the search, officers reportedly discovered a specially constructed concealed compartment inside the vehicle. A total of 19,400 suspected Yaba tablets were recovered from the hidden compartment.

The vehicle was reportedly travelling from Mizoram. Police detained two people in connection with the incident. They have been identified as:

  • Motachin Ali Mira
  • Abdul Ahad Laskar

Both individuals are residents of Rajgobindapur village under Dholai Police Station in Cachar district.

12,000 Tablets Found Inside Scooter in Silchar

In a separate operation, Cachar Police conducted another search near the Chengkuri Bypass area of Silchar.

During the operation, officers searched a scooter bearing registration number AS-11-AB-7634. They reportedly recovered 12,000 suspected Yaba tablets concealed inside the scooter's storage compartment.

The scooter rider, identified as Nazrul Islam Laskar, was detained by police in connection with the seizure. He is a resident of Kanchanpur Part-II in Silchar.

31,400 Tablets Seized in Two Operations

The combined seizures from the two operations amount to 31,400 suspected Yaba tablets. The estimated black-market value of the recovered consignment has been put at approximately ₹7 crore.

The two incidents involved different transportation methods. In the Lailapur operation, the suspected tablets were allegedly hidden inside a specially constructed compartment of a vehicle, while in Silchar, they were found inside a scooter.

The seizures highlight the continuing challenge of preventing suspected narcotics from entering and moving through Cachar district, particularly along routes connected to neighbouring Mizoram.

However, the identities of the detained individuals and the recovery of the suspected tablets do not by themselves establish guilt. Further investigation and the legal process will determine the circumstances of the cases and the involvement, if any, of other persons.

Investigation into Drug Trafficking Continues

The two operations resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of suspected narcotics and the detention of three individuals. Further details about the investigation, including the source of the consignments and their intended destinations, have not been provided in the information available for this report.

The cases once again draw attention to the need for continued vigilance against drug trafficking in Cachar and other parts of the Barak Valley.
