The spirit of Manipuri literature and culture came alive in the heart of Guwahati as the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Assam (MSPA), Kamrup District Committee successfully conducted its 36th Annual General Meeting (AGM). The grand event took place on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the Mandap of the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Mandir, located in the historic Manipuri Rajbari area of Guwahati.
A Morning of Tradition and Reflection
The day began at 9:30 AM with a solemn flag-hoisting ceremony led by Colonel Gokul Chandra Singha, President of the MSPA Kamrup District Committee (KDC). Following the hoisting of the Parishad flag, members and attendees paid floral tributes to the portraits of deceased literary figures and teachers who had served the organization in the past, honoring their contributions to the community.
The Delegate
Session commenced at 10:00 AM. The session was presided over by the KDC President, alongside Manipuri Rajbari Branch President Yengkhom Dhankumar and Dispur Branch President Laishram Birchandra. During this closed-door session, KDC Secretary Th Gaurav Sharma presented the annual report, while Treasurer Thokchom Nidhiranjan presented the financial accounts. Both reports were passed unanimously by the house without objection. Following the adoption of new resolutions for the upcoming year, the community gathered for a shared lunch, strengthening social bonds.
Open Session and Cultural Highlights
The Open Session resumed at 1:30 PM under the presidency of Colonel Gokul Chandra Singha. The event was graced by Dr. Phuritsabam Birmani, President of the MSPA Central Executive Committee (CEC), who attended as the Chief Guest.

The session was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries, followed by a formal felicitation where they were honored with traditional Lengyan Phi and turbans. KDC Vice President Wahengbam Helensana delivered the welcome address, setting a warm tone for the afternoon. Adding a touch of tradition, the mothers of the Manipuri Basti Meira Paibi Women's Association performed the opening song of the Parishad.
Release of 'KURANGANAYANI' Journal
A significant highlight of the event was the official release of the annual journal, "KURANGANAYANI" (Vol 3), unveiled by the Chief Guest. Chief Editor Laishram Taranikanta provided an editorial overview of the publication. The Publication Sub-Committee and Editorial Board members were subsequently honored with gifts for their hard work.
Speaking on the importance of such literary gatherings, one of the senior attendees remarked, "It is not just about meetings; it is about keeping the ink flowing and the language alive for the next generation in the diaspora."
The Parishad also took the opportunity to honor MSPA General Secretary Maisnam Ninghaiba, Vice President Khemamayum Dilip, advisors, senior members, and presidents of various local organizations.
Poetry and Conclusion
After the speeches by the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour, the formal session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Executive Member M Priyadarshini. However, the day ended on a high literary note with a poetry recitation session (Sheireng Sheidinaba), moderated by Naorem Amuyaima. Fourteen poets recited their self-composed poems, captivating the audience with their verses.
According to Secretary Th Gaurav Sharma, the 36th AGM concluded peacefully and successfully, marking another milestone in the preservation and promotion of Manipuri literature in Assam.
