Manipuri diaspora mourns death of Rajkumar Konungsana

Silchar, July 18: Manipuri Diaspora deeply mourns the death of noted educationist and social worker Rajkumar Konungsana, who passed away as his Dullabhcherra residence in Karimganj on July 14. He was suffering from geriatric disease and at the time of his death, he was 80 years old. He left behind his wife, one son, four daughters and innumerable admirers.
Rajkumar Konungsana was born on April 1, 1935 at Dullabhcherra. He completed his post-graduation (MA) from Gauhati University. He got his first job as an assistant teacher in CVP High School at Dullabhcherra. Rajkumar Konungsana was one of the founder members of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam. In the year 1964, he established a LP school at West Dargarbond. He also founded the first Manipuri ME School in the year 1966. Due to his initiative, 20 Manipuri medium ME schools were provincialised in 1970.
Rajkumar Konungsana was nominated as chairman of Karimganj OBC Board in 1974 by the state government. In the year 1982, he was elected as vice president of Assam OBC Association. In 1983, he was also nominated as an honourable member of Assam Board of Secondary Education (SEBA). He retired from government service as principal in 1995. He also served as president of All Assam Manipuri Writers Forum and All Assam Mongoloid Peoples’ Cultural Organization respectively. The void caused by his sudden demise can never be filled. His relentless efforts led to academic recognition of Manipuri medium schools by SEBA. Throughout his life Rajkumar Konungsana worked for the welfare of the Manipuri community.
