Manipuri Diaspora condoles the death of poet

SILCHAR, April 28: Manipuri Diaspora at a condolence meeting on Friday condoled the death of well known modern poet Parimal Singhawho expired recently here. He was a block agricultural officer with literary bent of mind and has three books Utki Mapei, Thamoi Mingsel amsung amamba and Magi Meichak to his credit. He wasborn at Bantarapur village under Sonai circle. He was the third son of late Padmanath Singha and late Ekabali Devi.
The condolence meeting held here was attended by a host of distinguished persons of the Manipuri community presided over byKheiruddin Choudhury, former president of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam. Those who spoke about the life and achievements of Parimal Singha included O Nilkantha Singha, poet and writer, L Mangmemba Singha, vice president of Manipuri Diaspora, M Surjya Kumar Sharma, president of Nritya Kala Akademy, Dr M Shanti Kumar Singha, general secretary of Manipuri Diaspora.
A minute silence was observed in order to pay respect to the departed soul and prayer to the Almighty for its eternal peace. The condolence meeting was also attended by the representatives of All Assam Manipuri Students' Union, AllAssam Manipuri Women Meirapaibi Coordination Committee and Manipuri Cultural Programme Promotion Committee. Quiterelevant to say that speakersreferring to the poems of Parimal Singha described them as 'providing new direction and dimension to Manipuri poetry'. The vacuum created in the Manipuri literary world following his demise would be difficult to fill. Parimal also held the post of editor of quarterly Manipuri journal Yenning and Anauba Echel.
