AIUDF begins pre-poll exercise in Cachar

SILCHAR, Nov 20: AIUDF virtually over-showered its rival, at least in the warm-up round, as the party began its electoral exercise on Friday by receiving application for nominations. Sources said, contenders could apply party tickets till November 30. However, AIUDF had fixed two preconditions for its aspiring candidates; with the application form they had to staple of demand draft of Rs 15,000. Secondly, they had to get enrolled at least 5000 primary members. On Friday 11 aspiring candidates had sought nominations in Cachar district. In Katigorah Assembly segment, the lone contender was MLA Ataur Rahman Majharbhuiya. Mehboob Hussain Majumdar had applied for Borkhola seat. In Lakhipur, Chowba Miyan had submitted his application form. Last year Chowba polled more than 16 thousand votes in this constituency. In Silchar, district general secretary (publicity) Arun Kumar Dey and vice – president Dibakar Bhattacharjee had sought nomination. In Sonai, too, there were two contenders, they were Amirul Islam Majumdar and Shamsur Rahman Choudhury. In Udharbond, three contenders were TH Nanda Singha, Ajmal Hussain Laskar and Aparna Tewari Krishna Prasad Bhar had applied for Dholai.
Apart from AIUDF, only the BJP had accepted applications for aspiring candidates.
Meanwhile, AIUDF working president Hafiz Rashid Chowdhury said, the party was planning to field candidates in 58 assembly segments including 15 in the three districts of Barak Valley. However, if there was a last minute alliance with any regional party of the left parties, there might be an adjustment in seat sharing. Chowdhury made it clear that in no case the party would forge any alliance with the Congress.
He said, till now the party was stick to its earlier decision of fighting the election alone. But the chances of last-minute alliance could not be ruled out. (SentinelAssam)
