Candlelight Vigil Held in Silchar to Remember Slain Manipuri Students; AAMSU Demands Swift Action

Lakhipuronline Digital Desk, September 29, 2023: In a solemn event held on Friday, the All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) organized a candlelight vigil at the Madhura Pool Point (Clock Tower) in Silchar to pay tribute to the memory of two Meitei students, Phijam Hemanjit and Luwangbi Linthoingambi Hijam. The students were tragically kidnapped and brutally murdered by KukiZo militants.
Over 300+ students from various institutions such as Cachar College, G.C. College, Women's College, and Ramanuj Gupta Junior College, alongside former members and advisors of AAMSU namely Saikhom Kamalakanta, Laishram Saityajit, Khsirogopal Sharma, Fanjawbam Lokenath, and Sanahal Singha, attended the gathering. They joined the AAMSU volunteers to collectively express their condolences and pray for the eternal peace of the two innocent young souls.
Expressing strong condemnation for the heinous crime committed by KukiZo militants that has caused great distress in Manipur over the past few months, AAMSU demanded swift action from the government to bring the culprits to justice. Additionally, they urged the concerned authorities to restore peace and tranquility in the state.
AAMSU lashed out at the government, deploring their failure to restore normalcy even after a prolonged period of violence. The union found it shameful and irresponsible that the innocent citizens of the state had to bear the consequences of the government's inaction.

Furthermore, AAMSU denounced the ruthless acts carried out by the military forces against students and individuals demanding justice for the deceased students.
Ashangbam Swapan, General Secretary of AAMSU - Central Committee, reported on the event.
