World Meetei Council urges Election Commission of India to rectify Meetei community fragmentation in delimitation process

Lakhipuronline Digital Desk: World Meetei Council (WMC) Assam recently met with the Election Commission of India (ECI) team currently stationed at Guwahati to discuss the delimitation exercise in Assam.
During the meeting, WMC submitted a memorandum to ECI highlighting the fragmentation of the Meetei (Manipuri) community due to the erroneous bifurcation of their predominant and contiguous habitat villages in the last delimitation process of 1976.
WMC urged ECI to rectify the issue by integrating the contiguous villages where the Meetei community resides, particularly in the LAKHIPUR Constituency (LA-13), which is the most populated area for this community.
The WMC team comprised Assam State Unit President Nabakishore Yumnam, General Secretary Irungbam Hari, two Vice Chairman of CEC Y. Dhan and Col. Gokul Chandra (Retd.), and Finance Secretary Moirangthem Ranjit.
The ECI has assured WMC that their concerns will be reviewed and further communication may be made if needed.
