The inaugural function was attended by SMB Chairman Niharendra Thakur as chief guest and Khelendra Subedar Road Development Committee president Kh. Kamlakanta attended as functional president.
While Ng. Basanta Kumar, General Secretary of the Assam Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, AMSP, Ng. Ibetombi, former Vice Principal, GC College Silchar, Nonigopal Singh, K.Rabindra and Dr. KN Chand as guest of the event.
While speaking on the occasion, Silchar Municipal Chairman Niharendra Thakur stated that SMB is pleased to named the ward no.25 road as Subedar Khelendra Road, who was one of the veteran British Army official.
History revealed that Subedar Khelendra who is the Queen Elizabeth's medal recipient Meetei British Army official was the first Manipuri to start settled in the present Silchar Assam rifles cantonments area.
History also revealed that Subedar Khelendra was highly respected by the top level British officials.
While speaking to this scribe during the inaugural event, historian Dr. Kunjalal Yendrembam said that Subedar Khelendra is the first Manipuri who got gun salute and high military respect during his funeral in outside Manipur.
Kunjalal also expressed his satisfaction over the SMB's responds towards named the IDGA point to Durga Mandir point as Subedar Khelendra Singh Road.
It can be stated that Subedar Khelendra arrested Manipuri Prince Bir Tikendrajit after an Anglo-Manipur war in 1891.
