Silchar, Dec 10: Fruits of patience and perseverance pays off in the long run. This is no exception in the case of Silchar railway station. After years of toiling, the Union Government, Ministry of Home Affairs has given the green signal for renaming of the station as ‘Bhasha Swahid Station’ Silchar through a letter dated December 1. The no objection letter has sent waves of happiness among the masses. The movement to rename the station started many years ago.
Dr Rajib Kar of Sammilito Sanskriti Manch, a cultural organization, said, “The movement started since 2005 to rename it. We requested other organizations to join hands with us so that a mass movement can be organized. We have also faced obstacles in the initial stages when Union Minister P Chidambaram cancelled it by terming parochial nationalism. Residents of Barak Valley protested fiercely.” He further said that the members Union Minister Sushil Shinde who relived the blot of parochial nationalism. The Centre nodded positively and has instructed the State to do the needful. At that time, some questions put by the Centre were left unattended at the state level.
“In February 2014, the Centre had to postpone the process owing to the Assembly Elections. Out joy know no bounds when the Centre’s decision reached our ears. I had a detailed discussion with BJP frontline leaders Dr Rajdeep Roy and Dipayan Chakraborty, MP Sushmita Dev. We will approach the Chief Minister to take the decision before December 31. The Centre has asked the state government to issue a gazette notification and send a copy of the same to the Geological Survey of India,” Dr Rajib Kar added to say. (Source: SentinelAssam)
