Health Minister visits Silchar

Silchar, June 19: Dr. Nazrul Islam, minister of Health and Family Welfare, along with Ajit Singh, minister of Transport, Excise, Sports and Youth Welfare, visited Silchar Medical College and Hospital recently. He talked to the patients and wanted to know how they were receiving medical attention and care. He also interacted with the administrative staff, doctors and nurses as well as employees. He advised for more stress on sanitation and promised to take up modernization of the existing hospital mortuary and toilets. The idea of having more sanitation staff to look after the day-to-day sanitation was agreed upon.
Dr. Nazrul Islam also visited the S M Dev Civil Hospital of the town. After inspection, he said the procedure should become more patient-friendly and expressed his satisfaction at the functioning of the hospital. He also assured the public and hospital authorities that funds would be provided to further upgrade the infrastructure of this public hospital. Later, he also held a meeting with the health officials of the district in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The patients who come for treatment in Silchar Medical Hospital and SM Dev Civil Hospital alleged that there is an acute shortage of medicines in the hospitals’ pharmacies due to which they have to procure most of the prescribed medicines from private dispensaries.  (Source:SentinelAssam)
