'D voters can also apply for NRC update'

SILCHAR, June 17: The Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, S Viswanathan,held a press-conference today in his chamber to brief the media-persons about the upcoming plans and activities the administration is undertaking regarding the ongoing NRC updation. Rajiv Jha, district project coordinator for NRC, and S N Singh, ADC, were also present at the press-meet. The DC informed the media that the submission of NRC application forms will begin from June 18. The forms can be submitted at NRC Seva Kendras (NSK) between 10 am to 5 pm every working day till July 31.
The Deputy Commissioner added that the forms, which have come from Guwahati, have already been distributed to all the NSKs in the district. He further requested that the villages should tie-up with their respective NSKs to distribute the forms smoothly among the public. The total number of NSKs in the district is 160. In the last 15 days, a total of 154 GPs have been covered by the district administration to raise awareness regarding this phase of NRC updation. To clarify any doubts, regarding NRC, the people can call the toll free no.15107.
Rajiv Jha said that out of 2,14,908 individuals who have visited NSKs, 1,94,765 people have been furnished their ‘legacy data’. He further added that even ‘D’ voters can apply to enroll their names in the ongoing NRC updation. Their inclusion will happen after the documents submitted by them have been scrutinized and verified by the authorities concerned. The ongoing NRC updation is being conducted by Registrar General of India along with the state government. He also added the ongoing NRC updation is being conducted in a people-friendly manner.
