Lakhipur Congress workers stage protest against train fare hike

SILCHAR, June 27: In protest against the railway fare hike and the increase of prices of other commodities by the NDA government, Lakhipur Congress took out a rally on Thursday. The rally was led by the son of former MLA and a mass leader late Dinesh Prasad Goala, who is also the president of Lakhipur Youth Congress. The rally was taken out from Lakhipur Primary Health Centre which after passing through the main thoroughfares assembled in front of Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) where the members of Binnakandi, Banskandi and Lakhipur Block Congress committees raised slogan against the NDA government and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. More than 200 Congress workers burnt the effigy of the Prime Minister and demanded immediate roll back in railway fares. The Congress workers submitted a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister of India through SDO (Civil) of Lakhipur Nabrun Bhattacharjee in support of their charter of demands. The Congress leaders said that the hike in the freight charges would result in all–round price rise and thus the prices of essential commodities like rice, wheat, vegetables, among others, will rise sharply. They pointed out that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot live up to his promises of bringing down inflation, cutting price rise, he should at least check it from increasing further. They pointed out that the NDA government took the decision to hike rail fare by by–passing the Parliament. (Source: SentinelAssam)
