SILCHAR, November 1: Gokul Mohan Hazarika, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar requested the general mass to co–operate with the administration for ensuring that peace and tranquillity prevail during this year’s Diwali and Kali Puja celebrations. He also conveyed his best wishes to everyone irrespective of caste, creed and language for the festival of light. Hazarika pointed out that as per the order of the Supreme Court of India, loudspeakers and bursting of firecrackers are banned from 10 pm to 6 am. The sale and use of fire–crackers which contribute to noise pollution have also been prohibited. Fire–crackers that produce sound exceeding the 125–decibel level have been specially banned. The Deputy Commissioner urged the people to take utmost care during the festival while lighting the different kinds of fire–works to avoid any untoward incident. He also said that a control room has been set up for this Diwali and people can report any incident by dialling the toll free number 1077. The Cachar police department has also opened up a control room and the number is 248744. Hazarika pointed out that another control room will be operating from the office of the Deputy Commissioner and the number is 239249. The Fire brigade has been asked to be ready for any emergency. He also pointed out that doctors at the Satindra Mohan Dev Hospital will be available for tackling any kind of emergency during the festival. (Source: SentinelAssam)
