AAMSU reiterates its demand for reservation of Manipuris in Assembly

SILCHAR, November 3: The 25th annual conference of All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union (AAMSU) was held in the BR Ambedkar Hall at Park Road here today which was attended by a host of dignitaries apart from the members and workers of the Union. The theme for this year’s conference was ‘Socio Political Integration of Manipuri and Role of Students’. A Nanda Babu Singha (ACS), Principal and Controller of Examination, Assam Public Service Commission, Guwahati, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Th. Benu Nanu Singha, president of the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam, was present as the special guest of the conference.
The conference was a part of the two–day–long programme which began on Saturday with a session in which all the invited delegates took part in an hour–long session and adopted some resolutions for the year at Assam Manipuri Kala Academi, Itkhola. The new executive body of the Union for 2013–14 was also formed at the conference comprising 41 members with Seram Herajit Singha as its president, Meisnam Ningamba Singha, vice–president and Pahambam Nilkanta Singha, general secretary. The Union pitched for reservation of at least three seats for the Manipuri community in the State Legislative Assembly. The demand for expeditious completion of Silchar–Lumding broad–gauge and East–West Corridor projects were also raised at the meeting.
All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union will be celebrating its Silver Jubilee on July 2014.
