Puja celebrations begin with Saptami

SILCHAR, October 11: Sunny day with clean sky set the mood of the celebration for the ‘Saptami’ today which saw huge assembly of devotees and visitors from the afternoon in different pandals of the town. By the evening with the swelling crowds of visitors to the pandals, well laid out and illuminated, puja took the shape of a carnival.
The devotees in the morning flocked to different temples like Ramkrishna Mission, Shyamananda Ashram, Kachakantibari of Udharbond, besides puja pandals in order to offer prayers to the Goddess Durga.
In the midst of all the noise and bustle of big budget celebrations, there have also been puja mandaps in the town which have maintained the serenity and an aura of sacredness.
The Purba Deshapriyo Road Durga Puja Committee has avoided lavish spending and laid stress on creating an atmosphere of religiosity with accent on giving the image of Goddess a sense of beauty and divinity. It was the same with Purba Para Ambicapatty Durga Puja Committee which has strictly adhered to the rituals and ethos of classical tradition of worship.
However, the big budget puja committees of Tarapur Rice Mill, Ananda Parishad, Shyama Prasad Road, Bilpar Mitali Sangha, Tarun Club, All Medical Sales People, Dakshin Bilpar and Udharbond Durgabari are hogging the limelight for all their show of colour, beauty, illumination, decoration as well as extravaganza and subsequently have become the hub of pandal hoppers.
The large turn out in the evening of Saptami was the indication that the administration and the organizers of puja mandaps will have tough days on Asthami and Navami to manage the crowd.
Hundreds of puja mandaps in the town with well decorated pandals, illuminations and of course the sound system are now humming and buzzing with devotees and visitors.
The police force is in its usual alertness. Police along with officers from intelligence department, fire service and electricity department inspected security arrangement of all the puja pandals. Makeshift police control rooms have been set up at different places of the town to avert any untoward incident. The control room number is 03842–239249. Apart from this, CRPF and posse of lady police have also been deployed in the different corners of the town. Further, the teams of Riding Squad and mobile police vans will continue patrolling throughout the next two days.
Under Silchar municipality area, there are around 250 pujas. A total of 51 areas have been identified as sensitive by the Silchar Sadar Police. The administration will also visit the puja pandals to monitor noise pollution and other measures. (Source: SentinelAssam)
