Birth anniversary of Irabat Singh observed

SILCHAR, October 3: The 117 birth anniversary of H Irabat Singh, a freedom fighter, was observed in a befitting manner here recently. On this auspicious occasion, the people belonging to all walks of life paid their homage to the great leader by offering floral tributes at his statue. Later, a programme was organized at Silchar Sangeet Vidyalaya by Jananeta Irabat Singh Smriti Raksha Committee.
While addressing the gathering, Dr Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, former Vice–Chancellor of Assam University, expressed his concern at the social degradation. He added that the society has been witnessing bloodshed, crime against women, burglary and other social menaces. According to him, the people should follow the path of the leader like Irabat Singh to spread the message of unity and brotherhood.
Sourindra Kumar Bhattacharjee, an educationist, said that anybody can become a leader but it is difficult to become a mass leader because for that, one has to be perfectionist in all fields. He added that mass leader Irabat Singh had never done anything for himself. He only served the humankind.
Ranabir Singh throwing light on the life of Irabat Singh described that he united the people of different communities to fight against the British rule. Among others who spoke on the occasion included O Churamoni Singh, Nilkantha Singh, etc. (Source: SentinelAssam)
