2 dead, 3 injured in separate road mishap

SILCHAR, June 23: 2 persons died and 3 others injured in separate road mishaps that took place within a gap of 48 hours of each other in the Lakhipur and Sonai areas of Cachar. According to police sources, it was around 5 am today when Fiaz Uddin, a farmer, withhis 2 bulls was proceeding along NH 37 for cultivation in his crop land and crossing the highway, a truck loaded with scooty vehicles and various other goods knocked him down. It was near Ujan Tarapur, Manipur part–I village, under Banskandi police station, 20 km from here.
Fiaz Uddin died on the spot while his 2 bulls were seriously injured. After the fatal accident, local people detained the truck and set it on fire along with all its goods. The truck was coming from West Bengal and moving to Jiribam in Manipur. The driver in panic fled from the spot. People blocked the highway which brought in Circle Officer of Lakhipur, Ruth Lienthang, and Dr Dhananjoy, IPS, ASP. They rushed to the spot with strong police and CRPF team and pacified the people to lift the blockade.
In yet another road mishap around 9 pm of June 21, a mini passenger vehicle with 4 occupants coming from Binnakandieghat hit a group of peoplenear Ramnagar under Lakhipur police station who were sitting on the edge of road in order to get relief from the sweltering summer heat. Among them Sujit Hajam died on the spot while 3 others in his company, Hardeep Singh, Sabul Uddin and Manir Uddin, were grievously injured. All the injured were takento Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The driver of the vehicle was absconding. A man hunt has been launched to nab both the drivers. (SentinelAssam)
