SILCHAR, July 17: Zeliangrong Union, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, based at Imphal, has expressed its deep shock and sorrow on the assassination of Babul Rongmei, who was the chairman of Barak Valley Hill Tribes Development Council and joint secretary of Zeliangrong Union by theproscribed NSCN (K), Zeliangrong region, on Sunday at his residence at Sabashpur near Silchar.
Babul Rongmei was a young dynamic social worker who rendered valuable services for the welfare of Zeliangrong people and other tribals of Barak Valley. He was a staunch supporter of Zeliangrong traditional custom and culture. His untimely demise has caused great loss to the Zeliangrong people in particular and other committees of Barak Valley in general. The Union shared the pang ofsorrow of the bereaved family and also prayed for his soul to rest in peace in the heavenly abode. The condolence message was signed by K Poushianglung, general secretary, and Amu Kamei, president, Zeliangrong Union, adopted at a mass meeting of the tribals of all clans at Meherpur Rongmei Naga Punji near here today.
