SEBA notice to poor-performing schools

GUWAHATI, July 14: The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) has issued show-cause notices to poor-performing schools in the HSLC examinations, 2011. The results of the HSLC examinations declared recently by the SEBA have revealed that not a single student passed in 130 schools, while 74 high schools and four high madrassas had their pass percentage below 30 for three consecutive years –– 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Talking to The Sentinel, SEBA Secretary Dr LN Sarma said: "This year,as many as 130 high schools/high madrassas have zero pass percentage in the HSLC/AHM examinations. Thirty-three of the 130 schools were accorded provisional recognition by the SEBA in different years. Now, the show-cause notices have been served to these recognized schools asking them as to why their provisional recognition accorded by the SEBA will not be withdrawn immediately. The schools have to submit a reply within 15 days from the date of issue of the show-cause letter."
The 33 schools are Kamalpur High School (Barpeta), Dr Ambedkar Memorial Girls' High School (Barpeta), Rajendra Vidyapith HS (Bongaigaon), Bilasipara Girls' HS (Dhubri), SilapatharHS (Dhemaji), Shalmari Girls' High School (Dibrugarh), Nishangram High School (Goalpara), Habanggiri High School (Goalpara), Khalisharbitha Girls' High School (Goalpara), Adharsatra Girls' High School (Golaghat), Bamunpukhuri Girls' High School (Jorhat), Swahid Kanaklata High School (Jorhat), Gohalkona High School (Kamrup), Hahim High School (Kamrup), Padmadhar Baruah High School (Kamrup), Kongjuk Athoi High School (Karbi Anglong), Chandra Sing Terang H School (Karbi Anglong), Kamini Sarkar Girls' H School (Karbi Anglong), Virwar High School (Karbi Anglong), Rongchek English H School (Karbi Anglong), Nayekgaon Janapriya H School (Kokrajhar), Bongalmora Janajati H School (Lakhimpur), Kumud Sharma H School (Lakhimpur), Sri Sri Anirudha Dev H School (Lakhimpur), Jarabari Anchalik Girls' H School (Morigaon), Jamunamukh Girls' H School (Nagaon),Arikuchi Girls' H School (Nalbari), Nobdilangting H School (NC Hills), Wadrengdisa H School (NC Hills), Haladhar Saikia Memorial Collegiate H School (Sivasagar), Lutheran H School (Sonitpur) and Hazipara High Madrassa (Dhubri) and Town High Madrassa (Golaghat).
Show-cause notices were also served to 74 high schools and four high madrassas that showed below 30 per cent results in the HSLC/AHM examinations consecutively for three years in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
