Development schemes of Cachar reviewed

SILCHAR, Nov 7: Progress in respect of various schemes and projects came in for review at a meeting of the district development committee presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Harendra Kumar Dev Mahanta, the mechanical division of agriculture shared the information that 60 power tillers were distributed among the beneficiaries in October. 40 more power tillers would also be handed over to the target group of people. It was also revealed that the seeds of pulses were given to farmers for reaping.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need of proper monitoring of distribution of food materials by the personnel of various departments for their fair and proper reach to children in the anganwadi centres. He gave emphasis on the distribution of nutritious food.
It was disclosed by the Bakija Department that till seven months of this year, rupees three crore has been realized. Rs 60 lakh alone was realized in September. The total target was 40,000 under Bakija. During 2009-10 financial year, a sum of Rs 1.13 crore only came from Bakija. The Excise Department made it known that an amount of Rs 61.17 crore was collected as excise duties from April to October this year. The PWD (R) revealed that the work for the repair and improvement of NH-44 from Katigorah to Malidahar as well as that on Silchar-Kalain Road have been taken up.
