Bithika slams Dutta Majumdar

SILCHAR, Nov 27: “Even if the Almighty was fielded as a Congress candidate in the Silchar Parliamentary Constituency, he too was bound to be defeated,” said Silchar MLA Bithika Dev today while lambasting district Congress president Arun Dutta Majumdar in front State vice-president Manjusree Pathak. An outspoken Bithika began her speech at a meeting at Indira Bhawan here, convened to make a pre-poll assessment. She said that former Union minister Sontosh Mohan Dev had managed to get Rs 63 crore from CRF for road construction in Cachar, but till now only Rs 4 crore has been released by Dispur for Silchar. “The Chief Minister himself has told me that he has blocked the fund,” Bithika said, and added: “I don’t blame it on the Chief Minister. It’s our people who want the fund to be blocked”. She then switched over to the Silchar Municipality Board episode, and directly charged Dutta Majumdar asking him as to how he could be generous to the rebel Ward Commissioners who raised their hands in support of the BJP to pull down a chairperson and her deputy nominated by the Congress. “Till now, you have not made your stand clear in the SMB crisis. Remember, it is the party which will be the ultimate suffer,” Bithika said, and added it was a popular theory that the people of Silchar did not vote for the Congress, they rather preferred the BJP. But the people of Silchar voted the Congress for two consecutive terms to form the SMB. Interestingly, it was some Congressmen who, in connivance with the BJP, pulled down a party nominated chairman. “How could you expect that the people of Silchar will again keep faith on the Congress?” questioned Bithika. Former minister as well as State Congress Minority cell president Misbahul Islam Laskar too lambasted the DCC authority. He alleged that the Indira Bhavan now became a centre of lobbyism.
