SILCHAR, Oct 29: Islam Uddin Barbhuiya (35) of village Makhan Nagar under Jirighat police station in Lakhipur subdivision of Cachar met with fatal accident when the motorcycle he was riding collided head on with a truck on NH-53 near Jirighat Colony today. He died on the spot. The driver of the truck after the accident made his escape good, but was caught after brief chase by Yasin Ali, OC of Jirighat police station. The driver of the truck has been identified as Mannu Nuniya of Arkatipur village. The truck was detained and taken to the police station. Following the accident, people blocked NH-53 at Jirighat for three-hours causing severe traffic jam on the vital Silchar-Imphal Highway. The blockade was lifted after intervention by Circle Officer Ruthlingthang at the direction of Banasree Nath, SDO civil of Lakhipur. The deceased was a fair price shop agent of Jirighat Cooperative Society. (The Sentinel)
