IMPHAL, Sep 16 : Author of “Burning Bright”, Deepti Priya Mehrotra has been invited to the 11th annual UNESCO Chair International Comparative Human Rights Conference scheduled for October 19 at Co- nnecticut University, USA to deliver a speech on Irom Sharmila Chanu’s non-violent leadership.
“Burning Bright” is a book written by Deepti Pri- ya Mehrotra about Shar-mila’s little known but dig- nified and non-violent leadership for social justice in India. The invitation letter mentioned that this year’s conference is convened not only to evaluate, compare and map out strategies and best practices that would facilitate eradication of discrimination against women in all regions of the world, but also to pay tribute to women leadership and agencies in expanding the frontiers of human rights, said a press release issued by the Just Peace Foundation.
