Patchwork begins on Silchar roads

SILCHAR, Sept 14: After all the debates, discussions and prolonged agitation by different organizations and political parties for improvement of roads in the town, the PWD (R) has begun patchworks in order to placate the agitated citizens. Surprisingly, no information or details have been shared with people about fund allocation or schemes taken up, in order to construct proper roads now littered with deep potholes.
All that the bemused citizens could see is filling up of the potholes and craters with red soil and boulders which are being levelled with the help of bulldozers. But with heavy to moderate intermittent rain washing away the soil spread over roads, the gravels are exposed. There is no possibility of roads being metalled.
The question of making them according to specifications is now a day-dream for the people.
With the festive season Dura Puja approaching, people ask questions about sustainability and durability of roads. It is feared that during the coming festive days, shoppers, pandal hoppers, revelers and devotees will have to bear with broken roads. (The Sentinel)
