Experimental work on Tagore appreciated

SILCHAR, Aug 17 : Dance drama script ‘Alingan’ based on the famous poem of Rabindra Nath Tagore ‘Abhishar,’ penned by Samarjit Acharya of Hailakandi has come in for praise and appreciation from the learned circles. “It is a sort of experimental work on Tagore literature”, observed K Jatindra Singh, Professor Sangeet Bhavana, Viswa Bharati University. In his letter of appreciation, Prof K Jatindra Singh says that ‘Alingan’ is the first such experimental work on poem in a dance drama form. He also notes that Samarjit Acharya is the first man to write the script of ‘Alingan’ without distorting the main theme of the poem.
He has at the same time appreciated the lyrics in tune with excellent symmetry in the composition. Silchar DDK has telecast this dance drama which has been praised for notable performance. Prof K Jatindra Singh,
as he mentions, has been doing experimental work on Gurudev’s dances for the last 32 years. Tagore himself introduced the dance ‘Kathakali’ and Manipuri classical dance and both the art forms are being taught in Shantiniketan. Samarjit Acharya said at a press-meet recently that a workshop on the subject in relation to Rabindra Nath Tagore would be held at Poilapool Community Hall on August 21 and 22. (SENTINELASSAM)
