Academy for the Blind honour teachers

SILCHAR, Sept 6: It was a pleasant evening set against the backdrop of serene and sacred atmosphere of the Sudhir Chandra Chakraborty Academy for the Blind, a project of Shiva Sight Mission, located at Kathal Road of Silchar, to honour three distinguished teachers on the occasion of National Teachers’ Day, dedicated to the great philosopher, educationist, writer, statesman, and thinker Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. The Academy pointed out that Tribeni Prasad Chakraborty has been taking care of the blind children, their education as well as their rehabilitation. On roll are 20 boys and girls who are being taught and guided by three teachers, sources said.
The felicitation programme began with a welcome song followed by “Saraswati Bandana” and recitation from “Bhagwat Gita”. Director of the Academy Nihar Ranjan Chakraborty welcomed the esteemed invitees. In a group, the little children offered floral tributes at the portrait of Dr Radhakrishnan and paid respect to the teachers in true ‘Gurukul’ tradition, a rare sight now-a-days.
Member of the managing committee Falguni Dey traced in brief, the history of the school with a difference and its achievements so far in education, orientation and rehabilitation of children and also the financial constraints. Though brail system has been introduced, it could not be made fully operational due to lack of trained teacher, she said.
The teachers felicitated and honoured on the occasion includes Shipra Roy, Dulangbala Devi and Jyoti Lal Chowdhury. They in identical manner, recalled their best of time in their respective institutions and the respect they received from the students. The programme was enlivened by cultural items presented by the physically challenged children. The programme concluded with the thanksgiving by Principal Sumana Paul Choudhury.
