SILCHAR, Sept 10: Katigorah National Highway Suraksha Sangram Parishad today blocked the NH-44 demanding quick renovation of the road between Badarpurghat bridge to Malidahar. The 12-hour road blockade was led by general secretary of the organization Subrata Chakraborty. Sources said all traffic was halted due to the blockade. Moreover, the Barak Valley Truck owners’ Association also extended its active support to the agitation which began from 5 am.
Sources further said that thousands of people blocked the road creating a massive traffic jam. Kalain road, that connects Barak Valley with the rest of the country, has been in a pathetic condition for the last few months, but, the administration was giving a blind eye to it despite repeated pleas from the people.
Katigorah unit of AUDF had, in August, threatened to block the road but moved away from the decision following assurance from the district administration. (Source - Sentinelassam)
