Mahasarak work progressing slowly due to insurgency

SILCHAR, July 1: The construction works on the Mahasarak from Saurashtra to Silchar has been seriously affected due to the on going insurgency activities in NC Hills. A government report placed in the Assembly stated the rate of progress is only 4.26 per cent.
In the Assembly, while replying to a query of Keshob Mahanta, PWD minister Ajanta Neog stated that terrorist activities in NC Hills caused heavy damage to the progress of work in the region. The minister also informed the Assembly that due to absence of adequate security, multinational companies like Gamon India limited, Valecha TBL, Messers Continental Engineering Corporation have stopped the construction work.
She also said that land encroachment is another serious problem which has made the construction work slow in the region. Ajanta Neog stated that the government is working hard to get land registrations, tree felling, utility shifting and tightening security establishments in the region to facilitate working conditions smoothly.
