SILCHAR, July 7: Bharatia Janata Party’s (BJP) Rongpur Gaon Panchayat Committee has demanded the speedy renovation of the Rongpur bund in Angarjur area by the side of the Barak River in Silchar.
On behalf of the GP committee, Sucharu Roy, Durjodhan Das, Bidhan Das, Sandhya Roy and Amit Chowdhoury stated that in 2008, the 200-meter Rongpur dilapidated bund was renovated under the NREGA with an amount of Rs 35 lakh. But, due to misappropriation in the allotted amount, they alleged, there were large scale irregularities in the renovation works of the bund.
Subsequently, on the prompt action of Santosh Mahan Dev, another Rs 50 lakh was granted for the scheme. However, the second lot of the sanctioned amount was also embezzled. The GP committee has hence requested the intervention of Cachar DC Gautam Ganguly and take steps on the matter after official investigation.
