Three Thang-ta players feted by JDTTA, Jiribam

Jiribam, December 22 2018: Three Thang-ta players from Jiribam namely W Naobi Meetei (Gold medal), L Doren Meetei (Silver medal) and Y Echantombi Chanu (Bronze medal), who have brought laurels for Manipur in the 25th Thang-ta National Championship held at Karnataka were accorded warm welcome in a simple function organized by Jiribam District Thang-ta Association (JDTTA), Jiribam, Manipur at around 10.30 am today.

A simple function was organized by JDTTA, Jiribam, Manipur at Samu Punbi Community Hall to felicitate Thang-ta players W Naobi Meetei s/o W Lokeshor Meetei of Sorok Atingbi Khunou, Jiribam; L Doren Meetei s/o L Lalbabu Meetei of Samu Punbi, Jiribam; and Y Echantombi Chanu s/o Y Romen Meetei of Samu Punbi, Jiribam.

The felicitation programme was attended by Kh Janaki Devi, Adhyakshya, Zilla Parishad, Jiribam; K Gopen Meetei, President South East Asia Culture Organisation, Jiribam Branch; and N Sadananda, Coach, JDTTA, Jiribam, Manipur as Chief guest, President and Guest of honour respectively.

Coach, JDTTA, Jiribam, Manipur N Sadananda said that it is a proud moment for Jiribam on the ability of three players from Jiribam who has managed to secure gold, silver and bronze in the 25th Thang-ta National Championship representing Manipur because it is a hard fought medals representing very competitive Manipur team.

He continued that the four days championship was held from December 13 to 16 with the participation of 531 Thang-ta players from 20 States.

Manipur emerged as team champions securing 303 points in the Championship, he added and said that 123 players bagged gold, 77 players settled with silver and 61 players finished with bronze in the champioship including the three players from Jiribam District.

He further said that the three players toiled hard on their struggle to be able to participate in the 25th Thang-ta National Championship as they face difficulties to practice due to lack of proper practice area, financial constraints while Y Echantombi Chanu wrote two examination papers instead of one in order to take part in the championship.

Chief guest, Kh Janaki Devi, Adhyakshya, Zilla Parishad, Jiribam shared her happiness and pride brought the three players from Jiribam representing Manipur in the 25th Thang-ta National Championship.

President K Gopen Meetei, South East Asia Culture Organisation, Jiribam Branch said that such achievement helped bring in drawing the attention of Manipuris that Jiribam is not lagging behind in producing top-class players and appealed the parents to let their ward enjoy the world of sports which not only bring honour to the family but also help leading a healthy life.

JDTTA, Jiribam presented modest gifts to the three players.
