MYFA urges Assam CM and Education Minister for inclusion of Manipuri as indigenous

Silchar, January 6: The Manipuri Youths Front Assam,MYFA, today submits a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam minister Dr.Hemanta Biswa Sharma demanding the inclusion of Manipuri community of Assam as indigenous ethnic community of the state.
In their memorandum signed by Seram Herajit Singh, president of MYFA, mentioned that the Manipuri community are coming from neighbouring state Manipur from 300 years ago under different historical circumstances like war, matrimony and business matter.
In their memorandum, the Youths Front also cited many historical points of the earlier settlement of Manipuri in Assam as supportive points.
In the said memorandum it is also narrated that the there have good relations between the Ahom kingdom and Manipuri king because of which many Manipuri princes were married to Ahom.
From the reliable sources, it is also learnt that as per the report of Census of Assam 1881, the population of Manipuri community in Surma Valley is 47356 while the population of this community in Brahmaputra and Hills tracts is 149 and 115 respectively.
From many historical books and documents and also from many research findings,it can be noted that Manipuri community is residing in different parts of Assam before the historic incident of Seven years of devastation.
