Lakhipur Congress demands issue of food security cards

SILCHAR, Jan 17: Congress workers and supporters led by Pulokjyoti Das, president, and Pintulal Roy, secretary, of Lakhipur Town Mandal Congress committee have urged upon Dilip Kumar Roy, senior inspector, and other officials of department of food and civil supply, Lakhipur sub-division, to ensure that the food security cards (FSCs) is distributed among the eligible beneficiaries under Lakhipur municipal areas on a priority basis. Speaking to The Sentinel, Pulokjyoti Das said as per the provisions of National Food Security Act of 2013, 5 kg of rice at Rs.3 per kg to each family member is to be distributed by the authorities concerned. Besides, under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) scheme, each intended family is eligible to get 35 kg of rice. But, many discrepancies have been reported in the distribution of cards to intended recipients. The Congress members urged upon the Food and Civil Supply Department to look into the issue and take appropriate steps in this regard. They further cautioned the authorities concerned that they would be left with no other alternative but to launch massive public agitations against the department. On his part, Dilip Roy has directed all the agents to distribute cards and rice under AAY scheme to all intended beneficiaries on a priority basis. (Source: SentinelAssam)
