SILCHAR, Dec 18: All sections of people, who joined a silent rally today, cutting across their political differences, came out to pay their respect and deep regards to Nurul Huda, veteran CPM leader of Barak Valley. Huda expired on Thursday in Ruby Hospital of Kolkata at around 12.20 pm. He was 86 and ailing due to age old factors. He was fighting for life from the day he was admitted in the hospital. Despite all the best efforts of doctors, he breathed his last owing to the multi organ failure, according to a party source here.
Huda was elected MP in 1974 from Silchar and as MLA in 1977 also from here. He was an honest and dedicated leader, popular among the people in general. He lived in the Jhalupara-Mission Road area of this town. His wife Chhabi Huda was also a dedicated party worker and always accompanied her husband in organizational works. Nurul Huda led a simple life and was free from ostentatious living. From all accounts, he was an inspiring figure for the leaders and workers of the party.
Amiable and quite friendly even to his adversaries, Nurul Huda would always be remembered for his principles and ideals. His death is being deeply mourned by all sections of people of this valley. In fact, his death has created a deep void in the politics of values and ideals. According to the party source, his body was laid to rest today in the Gobordanga cemetery of Kolkata. Paying his glowing tributes to Nurul Huda, Deepak Bhattacharjee, CPM leaders, said he would always be remembered for his idealism and wisdom. He was a patriarch before the leaders and workers of the left parties. Kabindra Purkayastha, former MP and central minister, described him as a leader of ideals and inspiration.
