Amra Bangalee observes Martyr Day

Silchar, June 10: Amra Bangalee observed martyr’s day at Udharbond recently to press the state administration to stop harassing people belonging to Bengali community in the name of ongoing NRC update. Speaking on the occasion, Sadhan Purkayastha, secretary, Assam state committee of the organization, said that since time immemorial Bengalis have been a part of Assam and hence should be considered as an integral part of the state. Purkayastha also slammed the chief minister for his recent statement that Assam is a tribal state and described it as most unfortunate. He said that hundreds of Bengalis are being illegally confined in detention camps by the administration. Such atrocities should stop. The organization on this occasion took the oath once again to fight for the cause of Bengalis and submitted a 5 point charter of demands before the Central and the State Government. The demands are anti Bengali Assam Accord should be abrogated, no Bengali should be treated as foreigner and the name of every Indian citizen irrespective of community should be included in the NRC. The assailants of Babul Deb, the victim of a movement to protect mother tongue on the day of June 5, 1987, should be brought to book and punished. (Source: SentinelAssam)
