Materials used to make IED recovered at Silchar

SILCHAR, October 31: The police recovered some materials which are used to make Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing 1kg from the residence of Uttam Chanda, an employee of Sale Tax and Gautam Chanda, owner of a grocery shop, at Chencoorie Road near Vivekananda Junior College last night.
The police after receiving information from sources raided the house of Uttam Chanda and Gautam Chanda, who are brothers in relation, at around 2 am last night and recovered the materials. Police arrested both of them and took them to Tarapur police outpost. After thorough interrogation, the police released both of them this afternoon.
In order to check the materials and to confirm whether the recovered materials was an active IED, the personnel of 147 CRPF battalion, whose headquarter is at Kashipur in Cachar district, were called in the morning. The CRPF personnel under the leadership of assistant commandant J K Verma, commandant of ECO Company, accompanied by Kanak sniffer dog and the dog master Nilotpal Chakraborty and assistant dog master Raruttam Das, reached Tarapur police outpost.
The CRPF sources said that the materials which are used to make an IED were there, but the connection was missing. The sources added that it was handmade. The CRPF experts diffused the materials before they left for their camp
The police sources said that they interrogated both the brothers, but did not find anything and thus they released them. However, the sources added that the investigation is on. The sources in police, however, did not reject the point that some might be trying to harass both Uttam Chanda and Gautam Chanda. The police, however, refused to make any statement as of now.
