Heroin worth Rs 40,60,000 recovered

SILCHAR, May 12: Acting on a specific information provided by BSF Intelligence Wing, a joint operation was conducted by the troops of SHQ BSF Silchar, 142 Battalion BSF and Sadar police station during which the joint team apprehended two narcotics smugglers alongwith 406 gm narcotics substance suspected to be'heroin' worth Rs 40,60,000 from GeetanjaliHotel, located at Club Road of this town last evening.
Among the smugglers taken into police custody was Oinam Sanatomba Singh (33), son of Oniam Mangi Singh and a resident of Heirangoithong West of Singjamei of Imphal, Manipur west and he was the actual owner of the consignment. Another smuggler apprehended was identified as Saaduddin (54 ), son of Late Hassain Ali of village Tamua, Alam Khani under Neelam Bazar police station in Karimganj.
BSF spokesperson SC Budakoti, Deputy Inspector General of Frontier Headquarters, BSF Masimpur of Silchar said that, the recovered consignment was broughtfrom Myanmar through Manipur – Silchar and wasto be sold to the petty smugglers active in the areas of Silchar. Both the apprehended persons along with the seized narcotics substance has been handed over to Sadar police station for further investigation and legal action. (sentinelassam)
