DC acts against dealer:1.43 lakh litres of kerosene sold in black–market

SILCHAR, Feb 1: It was way back in 2009 that theowner and dealer of Pailapool Srish Chandra Service Centre and Lakhipur Srish Chandra Service Centre, Tapodhir Kanti Das, in the Lakhipur sub–division of Cachar, sold out 1.43 lakh litres ofkerosene in the black–market instead of distributing it among the authorized hawkers to be supplied to the consumersof fair price shops. Havingfailed to get any plausibleexplanation from the dealer owner, Das, for depriving them of the allotted kerosene, the hawkers under the banner of Kalyan Samiti lodged complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar.
Unable to get justice fromthe district administration, Hawkers' Kalyan Samiti filed case inthe lower court of Silchar which subsequently wentto the Gauhati High Court. The case was ultimately disposed of with directiveto the District Administration of Cachar to take action against the agent, Tapodhir Kanti Das.The present Deputy Commissioner, Harendra Kumar Dev Mahanta, afterhearing the agent and thehawkers' body, Kalyan Samiti, suspended the agency of Das on January 30 last and official order was executed in this regard.
While suspending the agency of Pailapool Srish Chandra Service Centre and Lakhipur Srish Chandra Service Centre, the allotment of kerosenefor the month of February has been given to B B Agency, Rongpur, NBC, Sonai and R C Paul, Lakhipur. The SDO of Lakhipur, Biresh Chandra Nath, along with the sub–divisional food and civil supply superintendent, Ganesh Choudhury, have assured the hawkers of strict monitoring of the allotment and distribution of kerosene among the consumers in afair manner. It is to be recollected that the agencies of Tapodhir Chandra Das have been suspended eight times since 1994. (SentinelAssam)
