166 poll workers served with show cause notices

SILCHAR, Feb 12:166 poll workers have been served with show cause notices by the Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Harendra Kumar Dev Mahanta, for dereliction of their duties. These workers entrusted with election duties failed to turn up on Sunday and Monday to collect their poll materials at the ISBT ( Inter State Bus Terminus) Centre at Ramnagar, near this town.
Taking a serious view of their absence from the mandatory poll duties, show cause has been served on them under the relevant provisions of People's Representative Act of 1951 and the Panchayat Act of 1994.
The show cause issued onlate Monday night has directed these defaulting poll workers to reply to the show cause notice by February 13. Those servedwith show cause notices include 31 presiding officers, 18 first polling officers, 45 second pollingofficers, 28 third polling officers and another 28 fourth polling officers, according to official sources here.
