Meirapaibi observes uprising day of Manipuri women against British

SILCHAR, Dec 12: The All Assam Manipuri Women Meirapaibi Coordination Committee observed its 40th 'Nupigi Numit' on the occasion of 18th Annual Conference of the Committee held here in the auditorium of Gandhi Bhavan today.
The celebration began with the hoisting of the flag by S Jayanti Devi, president of the organization, following floral tributes to the martyrs' who laid down their life for the larger interest of the community.
S Jayanti Devi while addressing the occasion said that Meirapaibi would always remain active against the anti social elements. She said that the organization would continue its fight against women trafficking, harassment ofwomen and girls, female foeticide and all other immoral and illegal activities. She stressed the building of a healthy and peaceful society.
Kanad Purkaystha, MP's nominee, graced the occasion as chief guest. M Surjya Kumar Singha and Dr M Shanti Kumar Singha were the guest of honour at the function.
At the function a slew of resolution was adopted which demanded early completion of Silchar-Lumnding broad gauge and East-West Corridor projects. The speakers on the occasion appealed for the support of Manipuri candidates in the forthcoming panchayat elections.
Reiterating the demand of Manipuri Xahitya Parishad, the Meirapaibi Coordination Committee also urged for inclusion oftwo posts of Manipuri language teachers in five stage classes of high and high madrassa schools, one post of Manipuri language teacher in two stage classes of high schools and for appendingone post of Manipuri language teacher on the staff pattern of ME and ME madrassa schools under the Assam Venture Education Institutions Provincializations of Services Amendment Bill-2012.
