'No eligible voter should be left out'

SILCHAR, Nov 22: Commissioner of Hills and Barak Valley Division Dr Mohammed Ariz Ahmed underlined the importance of creating awareness among the general public on the forthcoming special summary revision of electoral rolls 2013.
Addressing a press-meet held at Rajib Bhavan here this evening, Dr Ariz said, "No eligible voter should be left out. The names of every eligible electorate should be included in the electoral rolls by any means. It is a very much important exercise to strengthen our democracy." He added to say that there is a need tocreate awareness among the public so that not even a single eligible voter be left out.
He highlighted on electoral participation including preparation of error-free photo electoral rolls, inclusion of electoralrolls and correction in electoral rolls, giving accurate information to booth level officers (BLOs).
Dr Ariz pointed out that the electoral rolls would be available at every polling station. He requested the people to verify their names in the rolls. He suggested the electorate to inform SDO, Circle Officer, GP or the office of the Deputy Commissioner in case of any query and doubt. He further sought the help from the political parties to carry out this exercise.
The Commissioner said that out of the district's total population of 17,31,312, there are only 9,98,735 electorates comprising the seven Assembly constituencies under Cachar district. The district administration today also released the list of BLOs with their contact numbers.
Dr Ariz said that the Election Commission of India has extended the time for filing claims and objections relating to electoral rolls from November 19 to November 30. But, there is no change in the date of final publication of rollsand it will finally be published on January 23, 2013. (SentinelAssam)
