Jawan killed in Haflong

HAFLONG, Nov 24 – Tension prevails in and around Haflong following the killing of one Lohit Nath, 36, an Assam Police jawan, by unidentified gunman near Lungkhok village on Haflong-Lanka road some 6 km from Haflong at about 8.15 am today. The Police and Army recovered 10rounds of live and 6 empty cartridges from the site of shooting.
It is learnt that Nath, along with three others were returning after a routine checking, when the miscreants started firing at the team. Nath died on the spot.
Superintendent of Police, Dima Hasao, Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta immediately rushed to the spot and launched combing operation to nab the culprits. Though no organisation claimed the responsibility till the filing of this report, police suspect the hands of the NSCN (IM) in the incident.
Three days back suspected NSCN (IM) cadres ambushed an Army convoy near P Leikul on Mahur-Laisong Road killing one and injuring several others. (AssamTribune)
