Problems in rationalization of Manipuri teachers

SILCHAR, April 23: The Manipuri linguistic minority teachers have expressed their resentment at the rationalization of their services which has created problems for them. Today, they met the district elementary education officer of Cachar here and vented out their grievances. Articulating their views, theyhave pointed out that they have accepted their transfer to different interior schools done in the name of rationalization of services.
But in a signed representation, the Manipurilinguistic minority teachers have referred to specific problems faced by them. Lack of teachers has led to the creation of single teacher of the subject in a school. The Manipuri teachers are facing difficultyin teaching Bengali medium schools which has affected the quality of education. Besides, in order to reach the schools, they have to some time walk on foot, they face transportation andcommunication hurdles as well as the time consuming process of making their way with the help of ferry services.
Many of them have to cover a distance of 20 to 50 km on an average to reach their schools. The teachers on the verge of retirement can hardly be expected to sustain the physical and mental strains of long and arduous journey. Female teachers in particular are worried to think of their safety and security in the interior areas. The teachers have therefore prevailed over the district elementary education officer for impressing upon the higher authorities at Dispur for reconsideration of the rationalization of transfer.
In this respect, the Manipuri teachers have referred to theoffice memorandum issued by L S Changsan IAS, commissioner and secretary to the Government of Assam,elementary education department dated February 14, 2012. The said memo is specific to clarify that in order to avoid the complicacy in rationalization of teachers in different medium schools like Manipuri, Bodo and Garo, the State Government has modified the earlier guidelines and taken the following decisions. The district level committee should ascertain the medium of schools to be covered under the process ofrationalization of teachers in schools from class I to VIIIand that the committee shall rationalize the teacherswithin the same medium of schools.Problems in rationalization of Manipuri teachers
