Awareness on legal services for common people

SILCHAR, Dec 19: A legal awarenesscamp was held under the aegis of District Legal Services Authority, Cachar, on the premises of Earle Higher Secondary School, Lakhipuron Sunday, as a part of the national legal services day.
The well attended camp was addressed among others by P K Bora, assistant district and sessions judge and N J Dutta, judicial magistrate 1st class, Silchar and designated advocates of District Bar Association, Silchar. The camp was organized at the initiative of L Mohan Singha, advocate and panel lawyer, secretary, Lakhipur sub-divisional advocates' development organization.
Addressing the assembly, P K Bora,assistant district and session judge, said that the poor and economically backward people who could not afford to meet the legal expenses were provided with all possible legal assistance, even the services of lawyers without any fees. He also spoke about the concept of Lok Adalat which helped the people to settle their cases amicably without the involvement of any lawyer or advocate.
The cases settled in this Adalat were final and to the satisfaction of both the plaintiff and defendant,he explained. He advised the people to get their cases, new and pending, settled through the Lok Adalat. It was for this purpose and in the larger interests of litigants that the district legal services authority was setup. He had a relevant advice to them not to file FIR with police, distorting fact and matters, and without making any exaggerated statements in their own interest. They should take benefit of the free legal services and no well about the provisions and laws which would guide themand provide them the relief.
N J Dutta, judicial magistrate 1st class, also addressed the meeting. Others who spoke on the occasion included Irabat Singha, Ali Akbar Laskar, Mohan Singha, Musaffar Ahmed Barbhuiya, SDPO, D Bhattacharjee and Pradip Kumar Dey.(SENTINELASSAM)
