Ajit Singh criticizes a section of officials for lack of sincerity

SILCHAR, July 6: Ajit Singh, Minister of Excise, Sports and Youth Welfare, while reviewing the progress in respect of implementation of various development schemes and projects at the district development committee meeting in the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Harendra Kumar Dev Mahanta, recently blamed a section of officials for their lack of sincerity and dedication. He said the sloth and indifferent attitude of such officials "have either stalled certain schemes or scuttled their execution" which he pointed out "can hardly be acceptable".
In order to put an end to the controversy over the visit of Ajanta Neog, PWD Minister, he said she expressed her displeasure at the functioning of all the wings of PWD and pulled up the officials for their lackadaisical attitude. Six road packages, he revealed, have been cancelled by her. For the repair of Sadarghat Barak bridge that links NH 53 and Haflong as well as Airport roads, a proposal of Rs 55.29 crore hasbeen placed by the PWD (Rural wing) before the State Government.
Against the target of constructing 10 health sub-centres till last month, it was disclosed by PWD (B) that 13 of them have been completed. Till the end of this month, the Deputy Commissioner has directed the department concerned for completing21 more sub-centres. A positive decision taken was to arrange for allotment of fund from NABARD for the construction of neurosurgical centre.
The Deputy Commissioner said that a public facilitation centre would become functional this month on the ground floor of his establishment in order to issue all sorts of certificates topeople for their benefit. It was however a dismal performance of the PHE Department which could provide supply of drinking water to two civil areas against the target of 122 this year. Potable water would reach 246 schools during the current year.
DRDA apprised that 1,89,155 job cards have been issued and 30,000 man days have been created. 9,010 self-help groups and 3,635 women self-help groups have been formed. Under green project, 5,000 hectares ofland in Udharband and 6,000 hectares of land in Rajabazar have been brought under this scheme. 1,19,852 accounts in post offices and 35,089 accounts in banks have been opened. It was also known that in some schools, filling of ground with earth would be taken up under MGNEGS. Rs 6.10 lakh have been sanctioned underNREGS for the district.
In order to set up a model degree college in Kumbha Tea Estate, the management has allowed permission for use of 20 bighas of its land. It was also resolved that every year with thecooperation of NGOs, monthly health check-ups of students would be taken up in the schools of the district. Anganwadi centres would now be linked with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. A monitoring cell of educationists wouldexamine if teachers were engaged in any other profession or not.
The district industries and commerce centre shared the information that 13 applications out of 701 have been forwarded to the banks for considerations as submitted by entrepreneurs. The DTO came out withthe disclosure that against the target of Rs 4.97 crore for the last six months,Rs 75 lakh have been realized. The Sales Tax Department collected Rs 24 crore last month. Among other resolutions adopted was to lay emphasis on the implementation of various welfare schemes for people in general in Bhagabazar, Kurkuri and Palanghat villages under NABARD. In order to identify the physically challenged persons, block development officers have been directed to take the help of different NGOs and to hold a camp this month for the purpose.
