Stalemate over Cachar College admission persists

SILCHAR, June 29: The stalemate over the student enrolment in Cachar College continued for the second day today as the NSUI activists staged dharna in front of the gate to the college which was locked by the Youth Congress on Tuesday evening. No one from the college authority turned up today and the student wingof the ruling party continued their agitation demanding enhancement ofintake in all the three streams in the graduate level. NSUI district president Javed Akhtar Laskar said he had talked to the principal Dr Debashish Kar and the latter had reportedly assured them the college authority would talk to them on Thursday. Dr Aparajita Choudhury, president of the College Managing Committee, had reportedly clarified that the admissionof student was completely regulated by the concerned admission committee, the MC had virtually no role to play. It is to be noted that, rampant anomalies in admission in the degree level in this premiere college had been reported for the last couple of weeks. Students alleged thaton the pretext of spot admission, the college authorities has been depriving the students who carried higher marks than those who has scored less marks in the HS examination. On Tuesday, when someof the deprived students along with the Youth Congress and NSUI leaders met Dr Kar, he had reportedly denied to give them an audience. Irritated, the students locked the main gate of the college. On Wednesday, the NSUI cadres blocked the gate but none from the college authority tuned up. The agitators, however, allowed the IGNOU examinees to enter the college and to sit in the examination. (SentinelAssam)
