JFA presses for journalists’ card

SILCHAR, Jan 10: Journalists’ Federation of Assam (JFA) Cachar district committee today submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar and chairman, district-level committee for journalists’ recognition card Harendra Kumar Dev Mahanta for his intervention for early issuance of journalists’ recognition cards to the eligible working journalists of the State. The memorandum pointed out that the Government of Assam had decided to issue recognition card in accordance with its earlier decision. The Department of Information and Public Relations, Assam, accordingly constituted a district-level committee with five eminent personalities with a view to selecting journalists and issuing them the cards with Deputy Commissioner as its chairman.
It however regretted to say that even after the lapse of three months of the constitution of the committee, the process of issuance of journalists’ recognition card is yet to take off in the district. It also noted that not a single meeting of the district-level committee has so far been convened. This has created lot of confusion among the journalists working in the district who are eager to enjoy the facility for their day to day smooth working.
The memorandum signed by Uttam Kumar Saha, president, Subir Dutta, general secretary, and six other members of the JFA, has impressed upon the Deputy Commissioner to convene a meeting of the district-level committee under his chairmanship in order to accelerate the process of selection of journalists eligible for the recognition cards.
