LAKHIPUR, Dec 5: Senior Citizens’ Forum of Lakhipur at a memorial meeting held under its aegis recollected the various social and humanitarian services of freedom fighter N Dhaneswar Singh which was under the presidentship of L Atol Kumar Singh in the community hall of the sub divisional town recently. After garlanding the portrait of the freedom fighter, floral tributes were paid to him. H Krishna Mohan Singh, general secretary of the Forum, H Gour Hari Singh, A Bari Khan, Tejmani Singh, Krishnadhan, Chouba Devi, I Binode Singh and others recalled the various contributions of Dhaneswar Singh for the betterment and welfare of people in general and the Manipuri society and community in particular. His entire life was a saga of self sacrifice and dedication to the cause of the country.
Recollections about his active and devoted life touched upon the beginning of his eventful career as a humble teacher who was born in the village of Binnakandie of the Lakhipur subdivision. Inspired and influenced by the call of Gandhi, he joined the freedom struggle. It was decided to install a statue of Dhaneswar Singh in Lakhipur. The memorial meeting was heralded by the patriotic song sung by L Manigopal Singh.
