Minority development in Cachar reviewed

SILCHAR, Nov 6: The implementation of schemes and projects meant for the socio-economic and academic improvement and development of minority community in Cachar came under discussion and review at a district-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Harendra Kumar Dev Mahanta, Deputy Commissioner, in the presence of Kabindra Purkayastha, MP, MLAs Parimal Shuklabaidya and Ataur Rahman Majharbhuiya as well as Dibajyoti Barua, ZP president. Hussain Ahmed Majumdar, president of minority development committee, ZP member Baharul Ismal Laskar, ADC SK Das, DRDA Project Director Madhumita Chowdhury and other officials participated in the discussion.
Initiating the discussion, Harendra Kumar Dev Mahanta revealed Rs 40.5 crore has been allotted for the development of minority in Cachar. For implementation of various schemes, Rs 5.77 crore has already been sanctioned. He said detailed plan and estimate has to be prepared for development projects and schemes in order to get the remaining amount sanctioned. It was decided that for the accommodation of girl students undergoing study in Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School and other institutions, a hostel for them has to be opened.
Dev Mahanta pointed out that during their meeting and discussion with Central Government officials at Guwahati recently, it was made clear that the fund under minority development scheme could not be utilized for individual benefit or for employment scheme. It was also resolved to set up ITI, undertaking work for rural electrification, construction of building for anganwadi workers, health care centre, Madrassa buildings as well as drinking water facilities. It was also proposed to set up medical centres at Ganirgram, Kanakpur, Shalganga and Bhagabajar. (The Sentinel)
