Free eye test camp by Lions Club at Binnakandi Ghat

SILCHAR, Nov 15: A free eye test camp organized by Lions Club Silchar Central in coordination with Lions Club of Lakhipur and Pragati Club of Binnakandi Ghat in Lakhipur subdivision of Cachar, 35 km from here, on Sunday examined 237 persons with problems in their eyes. Of them, 56 were operated upon for cataract. Free medical advice, medicines and facility of operation were provided to the patients.
Spectacles were also given free of cost where needed. The camp was held in Ganga Dayal Dixit Community Hall, according to Mukesh Pandey, president of Pragati Club. Ruth Lienthang, Extra Assistant Commissioner, graced the occasion as chief guest while Dr Partho Sarathi Paul, SDMO and Haraswar Dhobi, social activist, were the special invitees.
Jayanta Das, secretary of the club expressed his gratitude to Lions Club Silchar Central for their benevolent gesture and hoped in future to such camps would be organized for the benefit of the economically backward people of the area. Dr Nandababu Singh, Dr Misti Sen and Pradip Kumar Dey examined the patients with the help of paramedical staff.
In the remote areas of the district where exists no facility to examine or treat people with eye ailments, the importance of such camps for the needy and poor can hardly be overlooked, said Satrughan Thakur, president of Lions Club, Lakhipur. Salim Uddin, BDO, Monojit Das and Bikram Goala social workers extended all help and cooperation to make the camp successful. (SentinelAssam)
